Job summary
This position is for a part time Portuguese language teacher for children aged 5-11 years old. As we are an International school the majority of the children are learning Portuguese as a second language and are at beginner level, however each class has a small group of children who speak Portuguese fluently. The teacher needs to provide engaging, enjoyable, interactive and valuable Portuguese language learning experiences for our children. The teacher needs to ensure all children are making good progress in their learning and building about their language skills as they move through the school.
 
We are looking for someone to develop and build upon our Portuguese curriculum and find creative ways for the children to learn Portuguese. For the beginner level the lessons will need to focus on speaking, role play, pronunciation and real life scenarios. For the advanced level there will be more focus on grammar, writing and reading. There will be another teacher/ teaching assistant to help with the advanced group.
 
The Portuguese teacher would be responsible for teaching three of our classes, Coral Class (5-7 year olds), Moonstone Class (7-9 year olds) and Amber Class (9-11 year olds). Each class has three Portuguese classes a week which would be covered over two full days.

A Primary School Teacher (this includes both class teachers and subject teachers) plays a pivotal role in creating an enriching dynamic educational experience for young learners. They will guide pupils in their academic and personal growth, fostering a positive and effective classroom environment.


Key Responsibilities:
- Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with the curriculum and educational objectives, catering to diverse learning needs.
- Utilise effective teaching methods to present lessons, promote critical thinking, and inspire a love for learning.
- Assess pupil progress through various forms of evaluation, providing constructive feedback and support.
- Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities, ensuring all pupils can succeed.
- Establish a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages respect, collaboration, and a passion for learning.
- Encourage pupil participation and engagement in classroom discussions and activities.
- Provide additional support to pupils who require assistance, including those with special educational needs.
- Maintain a well-organised and conducive learning environment, including the arrangement of materials, resources and regularly update classroom displays so they are useful and meaningful for the children.
- Utilise technology and innovative tools to enhance teaching and learning experiences
- Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding pupil progress, achievements, and challenges.
- Foster a safe and inclusive space where pupils can express themselves and learn from each other's perspectives.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve teaching practices.
- Stay informed about educational trends, methodologies, and best practices in primary education
- Collaborate with colleagues, sharing insights and ideas to enhance the overall educational experience.
- Participate in school-wide events, meetings, and initiatives that contribute to the school community.
- Adhere to professional ethics and conduct, serving as a positive role model for pupils.
- Implement health and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of pupils during classroom activities.
- Promote a growth mindset and encourage pupils to embrace challenges and develop resilience.
- Collaborate with teaching assistants and other staff members to create a cohesive educational environment.
