Job Type: The successful candidate will be contracted as a senior scientist under a term employment contract.
Job Salary: In accordance with the work experience and qualification of the candidate.
Job Location: Regia Douro Park, Vila Real, Portugal.
Job Description and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will join the Fraunhofer Portugal AWAM team in Vila Real to supervise and develop research activities in renewable and low-carbon fuels, particularly in biomass conversion technologies and synthetic e-fuel production. Specifically, the successful candidate will pursue the development of application-oriented, market-driven, and fit-for-purpose solutions in close collaboration with different stakeholders to promote the production of renewable gases.
Responsibilities encompass project acquisition and management, stakeholder management, scientific/technical reporting, and scientific tutoring of students/scientists. The successful candidate is expected to communicate strongly with the project partners, so excellent communication and organizational skills are also required.
Personal Skills and Professional Experience:
- Solid experience in the fields of chemical and/or biological reaction engineering and separation processes for gas purification (e.g., biogas upgrading, carbon capture) and/or liquid stream treatment (e.g., nutrient recovery).
- Research experience in modeling biological systems and/or chemical reactors (e.g., Matlab).
- Proven experience in techno-economic analysis.
- Experience in the acquisition of publicly funded research projects is highly valuable.
- Experience managing research projects in close collaboration with industry is advantageous.
- Excellent capability of communicating complex scientific results (e.g., to industry customers and academic partners).
- Pro-active attitude and strong work ethic.
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal, proficiency in Portuguese is an advantage.
Academic Qualifications:
- PhD in biological engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, bioengineering, or similar.
- Track record of scientific publications, communications, and other dissemination activities according to the level of work experience.
